Alexandra Kontriner, born in 1980 in Lienz, lives and works in Vienna. She graduated from the Technical College for Glass, Arts and Crafts, and Design (HTL) in Kramsach, Tyrol, and subsequently studied art history at the University of Innsbruck. She also attended the University of Applied Arts Vienna as a guest student. She has been active as an artist since 2015 and exhibits her work nationally and internationally, including at the Lentos Kunstmuseum in Linz and the Museum Krems in 2025; at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Paris and the Künstlerhaus Wien, the Spațiul de Artă Contemporană /SAC, Bucharest (RO), and the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck in 2024; at the Ricco/Maresca Gallery in New York in 2023; at the Taxispalais Kunsthalle Tirol in 2021; and at the Museo Alto Garda in Riva del Garda (IT) in 2020. Kontriner has received numerous awards, among them the prize awarded by the State of Lower Austria at the Austrian Graphic Art Competition in 2019; the Advancement Award of the RLB Kunstpreis Innsbruck in 2020; the Advancement Award for Contemporary Art of the State of Tyrol in 2022; and the Erich Grabner Prize for contemporary artistic graphics of the City of Krems in 2024.
