Julia Frank (*1988, Italy) is a Vienna-based visual artist. She completed her MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in London in 2015. Frank’s artistic practice operates between sculpture and two-dimensional works, combining photographic, drawing and print-based processes. The body, particularly the skin, often serves as a point of departure, understood as a site of inscription, impact and social experience. Through intuitive, craft-based and experimental processes, she investigates material as a carrier of information and conceives form as the result of intervention and response. Shaped by biographical experiences of origin, class and queer identity, her work addresses questions of social bodies, intersectionality and power structures beyond normative frameworks. Frank’s works open up fragile, poetic spaces in which vulnerability and resistance become simultaneously visible. Her work has been shown at institutions including MUSEION, Kunstverein Schattendorf and Museum Fortezza. She received the MUSEION Audience Award (2016), the In Memoriam Sven Sachwalter Prize (2021), and was named HGV Artist of the Year in 2025.
