Wendelien van Oldenborgh develops works in which the cinematic format is used as a methodology for production and as the basic language for various forms of presentation. She regularly collaborates with participants in different scenarios, to co-produce the script. Her recent solo exhibitions include YCAM, Yamaguchi; Museum of Contemporary art Tokyo; CA2M Madrid; and the Dutch Pavilion in the 57th Venice Biennale.
This special screening of Van Oldenborgh’s films A Prelude (2024) and Sound Track Stage (2006-08) will be followed by a discussion moderated by Nina Tabassomi, Director of Taxispalais Kunsthalle Tirol.

 

A Prelude (2024)
Single-channel video. Colour, sound. Japanese, Spanish and English w/ English subtitles, 34.00 mins.
– In Tokyo, between two major sites of protest and resistance against authoritarianism, a small group of queer people gather. They move around, talk, and share their experiences of struggle and creativity.

 

Sound Track Stage (2006-08)
Single-channel video. Colour, sound. Dutch w/ English subtitles, 23.05 mins.
– In a public film shoot at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Paul Elstak, an icon of the gabber/hardcore music scene and hip hop DJ Mr Wix are challenged to play out their conflicting positions in music.
