raising flags is an ongoing project by museum in progress curators Alois Herrmann and Kaspar Mühlemann Hartl that has been realised at various locations since 2023, including virtual exhibition spaces online, international biennials and festivals, Vienna’s Stubenbrücke, as well as newspapers and magazines. In the Marktplatz, an installation of six artist flags demarcates INNSBRUCK INTERNATIONAL’s central location as a site of dialogue and discourse, a gathering set under banners disassociated from nationalistic identification. The selected flags are by Ghada Amer, No Empire Lasts Forever (2025); Minerva Cuevas, The Future Was Yesterday (2023); Shilpa Gupta, Ohne Titel (2023); Agnieszka Kurant, Flag of Stateless Nations (2023); Hans Schabus, Flying the Flag (2023); and Sun Xun, Movement is always at rest (2023).
