On May 1, INNSBRUCK INTERNATIONAL will host the world premiere of a reading performance of the great novel by the great Ingeborg Bachmann. Adapted by Sabine Mitterecker, the evening features Julianne Werner and live electronics by/with Lens Kühleitner. MALINA compels and unsettles; its force remains undiminished. The experiences of its literary figures resonate powerfully in the present. In the shadow of their inner abysses, the struggle for the beauty of language is ever palpable—a language which, echoing Bachmann’s own words, endures as a “placeholder for the human voice,” holding fast to hope, no matter how the word “future” is spelled. Let us banish the image of the fragile, shy young Ingeborg Bachmann once and for all. This evening marks what would have been her 100th birthday—with full concentration on contemporary, relevant, great literature presented in an extraordinary format at the intersection of reading, performance, and music.
